It took only a few hours for a phony Twitter account claiming to be collecting donations to be set up after the Boston Marathon bombings. Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns that it would not be surprising to find scams popping up after the devastating explosion in West, Texas, on April 17, 2013.

An email scam using BBB's name and logo continues to proliferate. Most of the emails containe the subject line “Complaint from your customers" and have a link or attachment containing phishing malware that steals information.

BBB has heard from consumers nationwide that may be victims of phishing attempts, due to the massive data breach of thousands of names and email addresses from Dallas-based Epsilon. The company, a third-party marketing service used by high-profile businesses to distribute emails to customers, confirmed the data breach last Friday and explained that the information stolen was limited to names and email addresses. The amount of data stolen is under investigation and has not yet been officially confirmed.

Better Business Bureau is alerting consumers and businesses about a new phishing attack that resembles an e-mail confirmation claiming the recipient has filed a complaint with BBB about a business. The malicious e-mails first came to the attention of BBB on Thursday, October 15.
